San Mateo County History Museum In Redwood City, CA

Housed in the old 1910 County Courthouse in Redwood City, the San Mateo History Museum offers interactive exhibits that highlight the history of the Peninsula from the native American inhabitants to present day. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the old courthouse features a stained-glass dome and mosaic tile floor designed to look as impressive as City Hall in San Francisco. Discover the county's rich and colorful history through hands-on experiences, photographs, vintage films, events, and school and family programs. Experience the Magic Lantern 3-D Show, a colorful light display that illuminates the San Mateo County History Museum every Tuesday night. The beautiful museum, with its rotunda and historic courthouse, can be rented for weddings, dinner parties and special events. The San Mateo County Historical Association operates the Woodside Store and the Sanchez Adobe in Pacifica.

  • Can I have a wedding at the San Mateo history Museum?

    Housed in a 1910 courthouse, the San Mateo History Museum offers elegant wedding venues for up to 200 people. Get married under the dome in the Rotunda Room. Host a wedding reception in the historic Courtroom A with the judge's bench for the bride and groom. The museum has preferred vendors for everything from catering to photography.
  • Is there parking at the San Mateo History Museum?

    The San Mateo History Museum offers nearby street parking and lots. The county parking lot on the Marshall Street side is free for museum visitors on weekends and evenings. There is also metered parking on the streets surrounding the museum for 25 cents to $1 per hour. The County Garage on Middlefield just off Veterans Boulevard is free on evenings and weekends. The Jefferson Garage, between Broadway and Middlefield, offers the first 1.5 hours free, as well as the Marshall Street Garage between Jefferson and Main.
